Which tile, and why

Three tiles, and the choice is mostly about how you play. Dynamic Pro II is the one most gardens get: an all-round tile that takes everyday play and carries basketball, netball, tennis and pickleball lines on one court. Super X is the step up for basketball. It is our flagship tile, FIBA Level 1 certified for 3×3 and the closest to the feel of a professional court. Pickleball Pro is tuned for pickleball specifically, where the bounce and the pace of the ball matter more than they do for basketball.

If you are torn, our guide to choosing court flooring walks through tiles against the alternatives (poured polyurethane, acrylic paint on tarmac, plain concrete) and where each one stops making sense.

The tile itself

Surface

Colour moulded into the surface

The coloured top is polypropylene moulded in its colour, carried on a white structural base. The colour is part of the material, so the court keeps its look down the middle where the game happens, and a scuff shows the same colour underneath. The grip texture is moulded in at the same time, enough to stop and turn on, with a clean release for the ball and your shoes.

Construction

An open grid that drains as it plays

Turn a tile over and you can see how it works: an open playing surface carried on a structural lattice that holds it clear of the slab. Rain runs straight through instead of pooling, so the court is playable again minutes after a shower rather than hours. It's also why the surface stays cooler underfoot than asphalt through a summer afternoon.

Adaptable

A court that changes with you

The tiles clip together, so the court stays yours to change. Relay the keys in a new colour, add the lines for a second sport, extend it when the budget allows, or lift it and take it with you when you move. And if a tile ever needs replacing, you swap that one tile.

Underfoot

A softer landing

Super X and Dynamic Pro II stand on a layer of shock-absorbing feet. They cushion every step and take the sting out of a hard landing, so the court is kinder on knees and ankles than tarmac or concrete.

What sits under the tile matters as much as the tile

This is where garden courts go wrong and budgets slip. The tiles clip onto a flat base and they are only as flat as that base, so the groundworks are the part worth getting right. A tarmac or concrete slab you already have is usually fine. If you are starting from grass, you need a proper build-up.

Your design comes with the base drawings, the falls and the hoop footing position already worked out, so a groundworker is pricing off a drawing rather than a guess. How to build a basketball court covers the sequence, and how to install a court picks up from the point the pallet arrives.

Worth checking before anything else: whether you need permission. Most home courts in the UK do not, but a fence, a retaining wall or floodlighting can change that, and it is a cheaper question to answer now than after the base is poured. Planning permission for a garden court covers where the line falls.

What it costs

Tiles are priced per square metre and the rate is on each card above, so the surface itself is easy to work out once you know the size. What people underestimate is the base and the hoop, which is why the total lands where it does. Our UK cost guide breaks a real court down line by line. Key courts start at around £2,000 and half courts cost more, and the guide shows which part of the number is the tile and which part is the groundworks.

Or skip the reading: build the court in the 3D designer and the price moves as you change the size, the tile and the markings. No form, no callback.

Outdoors, in British weather

The tile is an open grid rather than a solid sheet, which is the whole argument for it here. Rain drops straight through instead of sitting on the surface, so the court is playable again almost as soon as the shower stops, and there is no standing water to freeze and lift things in winter. Tarmac cracks and needs repainting; this does neither.

The same tiles go indoors, into garages, barns and sports halls, where the drainage stops mattering and the grip and the bounce are the reason to choose them. Indoor versus outdoor flooring covers what actually changes between the two.

The hoop is the other half

A surface and a hoop are one job, not two. The footing for the pole goes in while the base is being prepared, not after the tiles are down, so it is worth choosing the hoop before the groundworker starts. Our MegaSlam range is tempered glass on a bolted base plate, and the designer places it on your layout with the run-off behind the baseline already accounted for.

You can also start from a finished court instead of a blank one. Browse the court range for a size that fits, then take it into the designer and change what you want.

Yes. Our tiles are designed with integrated drainage and UV-stable materials for year-round play. They resist warping, lifting and surface distortion through seasonal temperature changes.

Most installations are placed over concrete or asphalt. Proper base preparation is what makes the court perform and last, and we can advise on base requirements when we quote.

With correct installation and normal use, high-quality modular tiles can last many years. Individual tiles can be replaced if damaged, making the system highly cost-effective over the long term.

Dynamic Pro II is the all-round tile most gardens choose: it suits multi-sport courts and gives excellent value for courts that get heavy use. Super X is our flagship tile, the step up for basketball, built for the best ball response and the closest to a professional court feel.

Yes. We offer a sample pack so you can assess surface texture, tile rigidity and build quality in person. Sample costs are credited back against qualifying full court projects.
