An indoor court does not care what the weather is doing, which is most of the reason to build one. This is the smallest room we will put a basketball court in: 6.10 m across and 7.32 m deep, tiled wall to wall, with a 5.49 × 6.71 m court marked inside it. The court stops 0.61 m short of the wall behind the hoop on purpose: the hoop needs that room behind its post for the height crank to turn, and there is a 30 cm margin down each side. Height matters more than floor area here, and it is the number to check first. A rim sits at 3.05 m with the backboard standing above it, so 3.8 m is the least clear height that gets a hoop up with the 30 cm of clearance we insist on. Be honest about what that buys: ball-handling, footwork, post moves, layups and close-range work off the board. A normal jump shot needs more air than this. A standard domestic garage at 2.4 m will not take a hoop at all, at any rim height — measure before you plan anything else. The key is the full 4.90 m across and the free-throw line sits 4.60 m back from the backboard, so the distances you practise are the distances you will find in a gym. There is no three-point line. At 6.71 m deep there is no room for the real 6.75 m arc, and we do not draw short ones and call them threes. Dynamic Pro II in Wind Grey, with a Graphite Grey key and margin. It is a true 12 inch tile, so it lays on a one-foot grid — a garage measured in feet needs little or no cutting.
